Client Win: Frequency Collective Website Launch

It wasn’t until earlier this year that I even considered re-writing websites. But then a few magical experiences in a row led me to a new offering and four websites written in the past six months: Quantum Healing Center in Vancouver, WA (read the blog about that one here); Northwest Life Medicine Clinic in Bellingham, WA; Made In Washington; and the latest—Frequency Collective in Edmonds, WA.

You may notice a theme of Washington and wellness on these websites, both big themes in my life. I love the PNW, and I love exploring new ways to care for my mind, body, soul—ALL OF IT—intentionally, so all of these projects were fun because they fit right into my world. Have I mentioned I work on things I am obsessed with personally pretty exclusively? It’s served me well.

For the first three websites in the list above, I worked with my friend Michelle from Minty Made to fully rebrand them: colors, graphics, logos, all of it. That’s probably a big reason why I haven’t written many websites (except my own) over the past few years. It really is a team effort, and I wasn’t connected with many designers.

The magical sequence of events

My podcast + platonic life partner, Emilie, met Michelle in line at a networking event hosted by our friend Danica from Green Door Sound Bath. She was so impressed with Michelle’s design business that she invited Michelle to be a guest on our podcast, The Coast.

In parallel, my mom’s functional medicine doctor in Vancouver, WA, was looking to rebrand. I often say no to projects I can’t take on fully, but once I met and interviewed Michelle, I reached out to her and asked if she wanted to work on the project together. After that, we worked on two more websites in quick succession!

And, because I had shared the projects in newsletters and on Instagram, one of my local clients reached out about Frequency. My client was working on the website design, and she needed a writer to breathe life into the words on the site. It truly does pay to share your work and make friends along the way.

The process

Similarly to my previous website rewrites, I asked my client to give me a framework of what the site would look like so I could build simple Google docs that followed its flow. I put them on a project-based retainer for about three months while we completed the project.

We kicked off with an in-person meeting and a voice questionnaire that digs in to how my client speaks and the types of customers she wanted to attract to her business.

EXCITING NOTE: I will be offering group voice workshops multiple times in 2023 to anyone who wants to hone their brand voice. This work can be done 1:1, too, but the group option gives you access to the same foundational work at a fraction of the price.

Stay tuned for updates on that!

The voice questionnaire usually gives me everything I need to embody the brand. And, based on how many pages we need to write for the website (usually 4-5), I can get rolling pretty quickly once I have the website wireframe and answers to the questionnaire.

The result + My Biggest Feedback Tip

It took a little over two months to write the website, gather feedback, make refinements and set it live. My client was fully renovating her space, which was pretty cool to witness, too.

I’ve found, again through Michelle, that one of the most effective ways to gather feedback is by recording a Loom video, usually going over one page, typically the home page header and supporting text, to see how they like the initial text. Once I have a thumbs up, I fill out the rest of the pages, embed comments in the document for them to review, or send more Loom videos. Sometimes I do both. In this case, my client was creative and visual, so Loom videos were key to moving the website forward.

It all came out so beautifully, and I hope you’ll check out the new Frequency Collective space if you're local. Tell them Whitney sent you!
